PET SHELTER EXERCISE - Sunday February 19th 2017 @ 0700
Post date: Jan 27, 2017 10:36:9 AM
Volunteers will help the Red Cross in establishing a Pet Shelter. This should be very worthwhile, and is an example of the many events we can participate in, not just local training.
My wife and I will be going, and you are all invited, even if not CERT trained yet.
Team: Tampa Bay UASI Citizen Corps
Summary: PET SHELTER EXERCISE
Category: ACTIVATION
Start Date: Sunday February 19th 2017 Start Time: 0700
End Date: Sunday February 19th 2017 End Time: 1500
Location: 215 Sydney Washer Rd, Dover, FL 33527
Description: The State of Florida Emergency Management is planning their statewide disaster workshop on February 19, 2017 at the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds in Dover, FL. Your team members would work with FL SARC as pet owning public individuals evacuating to a shelter. Animals will be provided by a local shelter and we need extra “victims” to arrive at the shelter and go thru the registration process; thru the American Red Cross as well as the temporary emergency pet shelter that will be set up, they will “stay” at the shelter (to get a feel for the set up of a Red Cross shelter) and then “reclaim” their pets and go home. Your team members would be there, one day, from approx 8am - 2pm on SUNDAY - Feb 19th.
This would be “hands-on" and some of your team members might be handling dogs (if they felt comfortable doing so). Our last drill was in Panama City last February and it was a great experience working together with the other organizations that are involved
during a disaster. The year before that it was in Naples.
