The Sun City Center Community Emergency Response Team (SCC-CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. SCC-CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization allowing professional responders to rely on during disaster situations and allowing them to focus on more complex tasks. SCC-CERT self-activates in disaster situations.

SCC-CERT may also support local Emergency Squads, Security Patrols and other volunteer service organizations when needed. SCC-CERT members support the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) in Silver and Amber Alerts and can be found supporting community events and activities, such as the golf cart parade, expos, and trade shows.

The President of the SCC-CERT) is the Chairman of the Disaster Planning Committee for Sun City Center. The committee consists of representatives from the Emergency Squad, Security Patrol, Samaritan Services, Men’s Club, Sun City Center Radio Club, Kings Point Radio Club, Community Association and Kings Point Leadership Group. The Committee meets every three months.
